Reform UK Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf has called the Conservatives “shameless arsonist firefighters,” after they falsely claimed they will crack down on foreign nationals filling Britain’s social housing - a crisis that Tory governments created in the first place.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has announced plans to exclude most foreign nationals from social-housing eligibility. Sounds familiar? As Yusuf said, “The Tories are announcing a social housing policy that Reform literally announced months ago. Or are they?”
He continued: “Incredibly, Kemi Badenoch’s new policy is to still allow tens of thousands of foreign nationals from the EU to occupy British social housing funded by British taxpayers.”
“Kemi’s ‘changed’ Tory Party believes if you’re Bulgarian, broke, and came here in 2020, you should get a council house.”
“Under Reform, all social housing - old and new - will be for Brits. Tory ‘change’ is just a lick of toxic paint.”
Yusuf pointed out that the Conservatives’ approach was particularly hypocritical given their record in government.
“The share of social housing occupied by foreign nationals doubled under the Tories,” he said. “They put more foreign nationals in social housing than any other government. Shameless arsonist firefighters!”
Yusuf said the Conservatives were reluctant to confront the consequences of their own immigration and housing policies.
“Fact: the Tory Party still wants to let Romanians who came here in 2020 live in our social housing”, he said. “Unsurprising. They’d feel bad evicting the tens of thousands of foreign nationals that they put there.”
