Burnham set to cave to Brussels by scrapping plans to deport European criminals
Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s love affair with the European Union is getting more dangerous by the minute.

The Labour PM is reportedly preparing to abandon plans to deport more foreign criminals back to Europe, following demands from the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels.

Under the proposed law change, ministers plan to deport foreign criminals sentenced to more than 12 months, even if their sentence is suspended. These changes would allow the Home Office to deport offenders immediately after sentencing, rather than waiting until they have served at least a third of their sentence.

But the EU is threatening to resist this, as part of Andy Burnham’s Brexit “reset” deal, which could see Britain moving back towards the EU’s orbit – including possibly reintroducing free movement.

A new report by the Centre for Migration Control has revealed that Britain has sent over 100,000 conviction alerts to EU member states since 2025. These notifications are sent when an EU national is convicted of a crime in a British court, or when a conviction is substantially amended.

In 2025, Roughly 165 notifications a day were sent out in 2025, with each notification relating to one convicted individual.

Among last year’s total, 28,715 notifications were issued to Romania, while Poland was informed 24,687 times and Lithuania 9,276 times.

If the European Union gets its way, none of these criminals will be able to be sent back to where they came from. And if Burnham drags us back into freedom of movement with the EU, this will only get much worse.

As Robert Bates from the Centre for Migration Control said: “European offenders are already placing immense pressure on our criminal justice system and a return to freedom of movement will only heighten this crisis.”

Burnham is showing that his true allegiance lies with Brussels, rather than the British people – even when EU demands come at the expense of public safety.

Reform UK would put the interests and safety of the British people first. A Reform government will champion the mandate of Brexit delivered by 17.4 million voters in 2016 – and will deport illegal migrants and return all foreign criminals to their countries of origin.

Only Reform can stop this betrayal of the British people, restore law and order, and keep the public safe.
