New leaked figures show the full extent of Britain’s border chaos. Home Office documents have revealed that UK Immigration Enforcement had identified over 400,000 people with no legal right to remain in Britain by August 2024. But almost half of them were classified as “not removable” because of outstanding immigration applications, asylum claims, human-rights claims, modern-slavery claims, appeals or other legal challenges.
Of those, almost 150,000 had unresolved claims relating to asylum, human rights or modern slavery, while a further 50,000 were going through the appeals process.
Separate documents have also revealed that more than 50,000 illegal immigrants - including 1,200 foreign criminals - had gone missing from the immigration system after being listed as “absconded” on government records.
The figures raise serious questions about the Home Office’s ability to track, detain and deport people with no right to remain in Britain.
This has been happening for years, too. In 2023, Home Office officials admitted that they did not know the whereabouts of 17,300 people whose asylum claims had been withdrawn.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said the revelations proved that Britain had lost control of its borders.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again”, Farage wrote on social media today, “This is an invasion. Reform will deport every single illegal migrant in the UK.”
Farage also described the over 50,000 missing immigrants as “a national embarrassment and utter disgrace”.
“Not only has this Labour government failed to deport these people, but they are allowing them to walk our streets unchecked.”
He reminded people that just three weeks ago, an innocent man was allegedly attacked and nearly beheaded by an illegal immigrant in Belfast. “How long will it be before this happens again?”, Farage asked.
Successive governments have promised to stop illegal immigration and end the small-boats crisis - first the Tories, now Labour. Instead, hundreds of thousands remain in the system. Nearly half cannot currently be deported for various confected reasons. And tens of thousands have disappeared from official view altogether.
Only a Reform government will leave the European Court of Human Rights, scrap the Human Rights Act, and deport every illegal immigrant and foreign criminal still in Britain.
