Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has demanded the deportation of an Afghan asylum seeker jailed for raping a 13-year-old girl in Nottinghamshire, warning that foreign criminals must not be allowed to hide behind human-rights claims.
Abdul Khan, 28, was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years after a jury convicted him of two counts of rape, grooming, sexual communication with a child and perverting the course of justice. He had posed as a 14-year-old boy on Snapchat before luring his victim to a nature reserve.
The court heard that the girl was left “scared of the world” by the attack.
Farage said: “It seems we hear stories of illegals committing awful crimes like rape every week now. It’s happened again.”
He added that Khan had previously been convicted of sexual communication with another child in Derbyshire, asking: “How was this man free to threaten another child? It’s unbelievable.”
Khan’s defence barrister told the court that he had taken a “long and arduous journey from Afghanistan” and would face “a problem with a deportation order”.
Farage condemned those remarks. “This man should never be allowed to avoid deportation”, he said. “I don’t care which of his ‘human rights’ he may claim would be violated. He must go - end of story.”
“He should never have been here in the first place. He came here under the Tories and should have been deported as soon as he arrived.”
Under the current law, Khan is subject to automatic deportation on his release from prison, but he may seek to challenge it.
Farage said a Reform government would ensure that he was “deported with no legal recourse to challenge it”.
“The same goes for every illegal migrant and foreign criminal”, he said.
