Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice has made clear that the Labour government’s sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the West Bank would harm Britain’s security and international standing.
“Sanctions imposed by this hard-left, anti-Jew Burnham government against Israel will embolden anti-Semitic hate crimes in the UK [and] are damaging to our international standing with the US and Israel, two of our most important security partners”, he said. “It is self-destructive virtue-signalling that will make us less safe.”
Tice accused Labour of acting for narrow electoral reasons. “Labour’s desperation to win back hard-left and Islamist voters from the Greens is stupidly self-defeating,” he said. “Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband’s kamikaze mission to take a wrecking ball to the relationship with one of [Britain’s] most important security partners and economic interests is student politics at its most destructive.”
At Reform UK’s conference last week, Nigel Farage reiterated: “We will support the State of Israel, its right to exist.”
Farage warned that Israel is surrounded by countries that “literally want to obliterate it and wipe it off the face of the Earth”. He said this was why it was “so unacceptable” for the Metropolitan Police to allow the slogan “From the river to the sea” to be “chanted openly in British streets”.
