Reform UK has won seven council by-elections in a single night, in another sign that voters across the country are abandoning both Labour and the Conservatives.
Reform UK’s leader, Nigel Farage, hailed the results as further proof that the party is now the only serious national alternative to the old establishment. “Across the country, people get it,” Farage wrote on social media, “Britain is broken. Only Reform will fix it!”
The results included a stunning victory in St Helens Town Centre, where Reform UK had not even stood last time the seat was contested in 2022. This time, the party surged to almost 40% of the vote, beating Labour in one of its former heartlands. Meanwhile, the Tories got a measly 3.6% of the vote. In the words of Farage, “they’re no longer a national party.”
Reform UK also won in Haydock, another St Helens ward with 33% of the vote, underlining the scale of Labour’s collapse in an area it once took for granted.
There were major gains against the Tories, too. In Wilnecote, Tamworth, Reform UK won with 46% of the vote, after increasing its share by more than 33 percentage points. The Conservative vote fell by 20 percentage points.
Reform UK also secured victories in Roman Bank & Peckover in Cambridgeshire, Rhyl South in Denbighshire, Camp Hill in Nuneaton and Bedworth, and Stretton in Staffordshire. From the North West to North Wales, Reform UK is winning in areas once dominated by Labour and the Conservatives.
The results point to the same trend at the local elections in May, when Reform UK won 1,451 council seats, took control of 14 councils, and broke through in Labour and Tory areas across the country.
Labour is losing its grip, and the Conservatives are fading into irrelevance. Only Reform UK is moving forward.
