Zia Yusuf has made clear that “the invasion of Britain continues under Labour”. The Reform UK shadow home secretary was reacting to bombshell new figures which revealed that almost 70 000 asylum seekers are now living in the middle of British communities.
The Labour government has made headlines with its commitment to stop illegal immigrants being housed in taxpayer-funded hotels. Now we know for sure that, under their “dispersal” policy, Labour are simply moving thousands of them into residential homes in a street near you.
Some 69,038 are living in houses, flats and bedsits in British residential areas - many of them in houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). No fewer than 4,790 of these are failed asylum seekers, who continue to live here at taxpayers’ expense despite losing their legal bid to stay.
This is even before we consider the new policy of moving large numbers of illegal immigrants into unused, open, former military bases, from where they will be free to roam the nearby small towns and villages.
Illegal immigration is a financial drain Britain cannot afford - with asylum seekers reportedly costing the Home Office £4.36 billion in 2025/26. Even more urgently, it is also a threat to public safety and national security.
“More than 205,000 people have crossed the Channel in boats since 2018, yet just 5% have been deported,” said Zia Yusuf. “Meanwhile, the number of foreign criminals walking our streets has hit a record 21,294.
“Labour is allowing dangerous foreign criminals to roam freely, posing a serious threat to the British public, while illegal migrants are being dispersed from hotels into HMOs and properties in British communities, with virtually no background checks.
“Britain is at breaking point,” said Zia. “Under Reform, illegal boats in the Channel will be stopped by our Royal Navy, and all those here illegally will be detained and deported.”
Eritreans, Afghans, Iranians, Sudanese and Somalis have accounted for the biggest cohorts of small boat migrants so far this year. Zia Yusuf highlighted the case of one, Sudanese Ibrahim Albashir, who has just been jailed for the attempted murder of a 32-year-old woman.
"He ambushed her as she walked home from a meal with friends. He stabbed her 30 times with a broken bottle. She survived only because locals heard her ‘blood-curdling screams’ and intervened.
"Albashir is an illegal migrant. The Tories let him in. After entering Britain, the court heard he sexually assaulted a female staff member at a hostel. Despite all this, he was left to roam free. It could have been your daughter, wife, sister, or grandmother. Stabbed 30 times with broken glass.
The furore around the Home Office booklet which advises asylum seekers not to rape women shows that the government knows illegal immigrants pose a threat to the British public. Yet they continue to treat these people like welcome guests.
"At this very moment, thousands upon thousands of unvetted illegals continue to roam free,” said Zia Yusuf. “This is the consequence of inaction. Every day that passes without mass deportations risks ever more blood on the government’s hands. They do not care about you."
