Reform UK Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf has warned that Britain must secure its own borders after visiting Ceuta, the Spanish territory in North Africa recently stormed by 50,000 Moroccan men.
In Ceuta over the weekend, Yusuf described scenes of disorder caused by the men after they crossed into the territory.
“We also saw some of those men maraud through town overnight”, Yusuf said. “We saw them loot shops; we saw them terrorise locals. We heard from a man who said he’s wanted for murder in his home country.”
Sharing the footage, Yusuf wrote: “I went to Ceuta and saw the scale of the carnage. I saw Spanish Armed Forces deployed to defend the border. Britain needs to wake up.”
Yusuf contrasted Spain’s response to the mass arrival with the lacklustre approach taken by successive British governments to illegal Channel crossings.
“When you see 50,000 arrive in a single day, what happens? Spain sends its armed forces in response”, he said.
“Two hundred thousand have turned up on British beaches illegally under Tory and Labour governments. Just because it’s taken a bit longer makes it no less dangerous.”
He concluded: “Britain must secure our borders before it’s too late.”
