Labour is refusing to back down over its guidance teaching asylum seekers not to rape women, abuse children and beat their wives. Labour Deputy Leader Lucy Powell has defended the series of posters on the basis that these illegal immigrants are “coming from other countries [that] do have different cultures”. Now, Labour MP and former safeguarding minister Jess Phillips has argued that similar campaigns have targeted - and should target - British men.
The Home Office booklet instructs asylum seekers on consent, domestic abuse and the treatment of women. It includes reminders that sex with a child is a serious crime, that women are entitled to make their own decisions, and that sexual harassment is against the law. The guide also points out that committing a crime could negatively impact an asylum case.
Reform UK Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf called the guidance a “disgrace”, saying it showed that the government knows illegal migrants “are a menace”.
Speaking on Times Radio, Phillips claimed that the government’s previous “Enough” campaign sought to educate men across Britain about “stalking behaviours, harassment behaviours [and] harassment in public”, as well as “the dangers of a lack of consent”.
Phillips said that the Home Office had run a “multi-million pound scheme for men across the entirety of the country”. She also admitted to having not seen the documents in question.
This misses the point entirely. The guidance was produced specifically for asylum seekers because the government believes it is necessary to explain these basic legal and moral standards to illegal immigrants arriving in Britain. It’s an implicit admission that, as we all know, these undocumented fighting-age men pose a threat to the British public and women in particular.
As Nigel Farage has long said, this is a national security emergency. Under a Reform government, illegal immigrants will not be given taxpayer-funded lessons in basic decency.
