Reform UK Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf visited Piddington, Oxfordshire, on Saturday to meet residents facing Labour plans to house up to 1,250 illegal immigrants at a nearby former Ministry of Defence site.
“This is Piddington, ground zero for the invasion of Britain”, Yusuf said.
“It’s a village of just 350 people into which Labour is dumping 1,250 illegal migrant men.” The site would therefore contain more than three times the population of the village itself.
The illegal immigrants, Yusuf said, would come from countries including Afghanistan, Eritrea and Sudan. “The Home Office has been handing them leaflets teaching them that rape is illegal in Britain”, he added.
They would be “free to roam around” and be accommodated at the site for 10 years “at your expense”, Yusuf warned. The proposed facility is also beside a children’s play area.
“What kind of a government does this to its own people?” he asked.
Yusuf said he had met “terrified local residents” begging the government not to press ahead. Mothers had told him they were taking self-defence classes with their daughters, while one father said that his daughter’s childhood “was over”. Yet Labour is determined to force the plans through using an urgent planning process.
The Conservatives are also now trying to attack Labour over Piddington, with leader Kemi Badenoch bizarrely claiming that Burnham is “essentially copying a Reform UK policy” to place migrant detention centres in areas that vote Green.
That is simply not true. Reform UK’s policy is to build secure detention centres for illegal immigrants awaiting swift deportation. They would not be accommodated for years at taxpayers’ expense, free to roam local communities.
Let’s not forget that it was the Tories who created the crisis that Labour is now making worse.
“The Tories and Labour have allowed 200,000 illegal migrants to turn up on our shores”, Yusuf said. “And instead of detaining and deporting these men, they are dumping them on local communities like this one in Piddington.”
During 14 years of Conservative government, Britain saw record high immigration and small-boat crossings reached their highest annual total on record. It was the Tories who opened Britain's borders and spent billions filling hotels with undocumented, military-age men.
Only Reform can end the cycle altogether. Under a Reform government, all illegal immigrants in Britain will be detained and deported. And, under Operation Fortress, any vessel trying to reach our shores illegally will be intercepted, with everyone on board removed and returned to where they came from.
Reform would also hold companies and their directors criminally responsible where they profit from housing illegal immigrants who endanger local communities. “The days of gilded elites enriching themselves at the misery of hard working British people will soon be over”, said Yusuf.
