Reform UK’s shadow home secretary Zia Yusuf has accused Labour of plotting yet another betrayal of Britain’s borders, warning that Andy Burnham as Prime Minister would make an already disastrous crisis even worse.
Andy Burnham - Labour’s leader in waiting - plans to directly relocate more than 10,000 asylum seekers from overseas, including from countries such as Sudan and Eritrea - nationalities that are already arriving by the small-boatload.
“Labour has no mandate for this”, Yusuf reminded people on X, “It was not in their manifesto. The British people voted repeatedly for less immigration, yet keep being subjected to more.”
The British people were never asked if they wanted to invite into the country tens of thousands of people we know nothing about. We were never asked if we wanted more pressure on housing, public services and schools. So why does Labour feel emboldened to continue forcing this invasion upon us?
If Burnham’s resettlement plan wasn’t bad enough, another of his first priorities as Prime Minister would be to tear up current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood’s plans to delay the Boriswave becoming eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). That would mean up to 2.2 million immigrants who arrived from outside the EU gaining permanent residence, full access to benefits and the right to social housing in the coming years.
“Worse still”, Yusuf wrote for GB News, “they’d be able to start sponsoring relations at home”.
He warned that importing “low-skilled, low-wage workers” into the welfare system would put taxpayers on the hook for “at least £50 billion” - around £1,800 for every household in Britain.
If Burnham tries to make the Boriswave permanent, a Reform government would reverse it by “abolishing ILR, rescinding residence rights of those dependent on the state, and reforming the immigration system so that no government can ever behave so recklessly again.”
Reform UK would not just close legal backdoors into Britain. We plan to go after the networks that help people enter this country illegally, too.
In a post on X, Yusuf pointed to reports that an Afghan migrant smuggler had claimed to have “contacts inside” the British government, tipping off smugglers about security checks at Dover.
“This is an outrage, but not surprising”, Yusuf wrote. “We know the Tory Labour political class have aided and abetted the invasion of Britain.”
As Yusuf wrote on GB News: “The simple truth is that only one party can be trusted to do what’s right for Britain and what’s right for the taxpayer.” And that is Reform UK.
Reform UK would crack down on those who enable illegal entry into Britain, making the act of aiding and abetting illegal entry into the UK a criminal offence, regardless of intent, and make it punishable by up to two years in prison.
