Reform UK Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf has warned Vodafone’s chief executive and board that they could face prison under a Reform government over the company’s support for a charity working with illegal immigrants in Calais.
In a letter to Vodafone chief executive Margherita Della Valle, Yusuf said the company had issued 2,221 SIM cards to Care4Calais, an NGO that provides aid to illegal immigrants trying to enter Britain.
“Vodafone’s customers will no doubt be astounded to hear that a British company of generally good repute is helping to facilitate the invasion of Britain”, Yusuf wrote. He said the company was “actively endangering British women and girls”.
Yusuf warned that, if Vodafone continued to distribute pre-paid SIM cards to illegal immigrants, its senior figures would face criminal sanctions under a future Reform government.
“As Home Secretary, I will introduce ‘Polanski’s Law’, making it a ‘strict liability’ offence for people to perform any act that assists or encourages illegal entry into the United Kingdom,” he said.
He added: “A Reform UK government will hold each and every officer and director of Vodafone Group Plc and all relevant subsidiaries personally and criminally liable for distributing SIM cards to illegal migrants. If found guilty, you would be liable to go to prison.”
Yusuf called on Vodafone to cancel the SIM cards, end its relationship with Care4Calais and provide tracking data to British and French authorities to help combat illegal Channel crossings.
He also said a Reform government would review Vodafone’s public contracts and could exclude the company from defence, national-security and emergency-services procurement.
